LA/SPCA Holiday Pet Photos at Jefferson Feed, Pet & Garden Center. December 6th, 13th & 20th from 10:00-5:00; December 7th, 14th & 21st from Noon– 4:30; December 3rd, 4th, 10th, 11th, 17th & 18th from 3:00–7:30. Give a special gift of love. Receive six, 4 x 6 color photos of you, your pet/or family, plus negatives for reproducing your favorite shots. Two scenes to choose from. Yappy HourTM wine and snacks for you held the 2nd Thursday of every month; treats for your dog at Jefferson Feed, Pet and Garden Center, 4421 Jefferson Highway at Central Ave. 5 p.m.– 8 p.m. For a $10 donation to the Jefferson Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, there is fun and food for all. Barkus Ball! Barkin’ Up The Ritz Ball is the dog lover’s signal that the Mardi Gras Carnival season has truly begun. The Ritz-Carlton New Orleans, 8pm-midnight. Tickets $80/each and include full bar, sumptuous edibles, and entertainment. Reserved tables of 10/ $1500 include additional amenities. Barkin’ Up The Ritz is for humans only (except for the King and Queen of Barkus). Black-tie optional. Costumes-encouraged. Tickets are available online at www.barkus.org, or at door night of event.

February 15
The 12th Annual Krewe of Barkus parade. This year’s theme is “Fistful of Collars”. Pooches and their human escorts are encouraged to dress as their favorite Western Hero(ine). The party begins at 10:30 at Armstrong Park. The parade will roll past the VIP/Celebrity viewing stand at St. Ann & Dauphine and will continue its 15-block route through the French Quarter and back to Armstrong Park. Help The Animals…You Might Drive Away in a New BMW! Southern Animal Foundation (SAF) is raffling a new, never-owned, 2003 BMW 3 series (white, black interior, fully equipped) to raise funds for their shelter and clinic. Only 2,000 tickets will be sold at $50 each. Winner will be drawn onstage Sunday, Feb. 15 at the Barkus Pawtuy, Armstrong Park. Proceeds benefit Southern Animal Foundation. The 23rd Annual LA/SPCA Dog Day Afternoon—held at Audubon Park, features a walk/jog around the park, crazy pet tricks, Frisbee catch & a people-pet-look-alike contest. A Food Court, showcasing local festival-foods, Canine Good Citizen testing by The Visiting Pet Program, carnival games and live music round out the day.
